År 2006 lanserade Saab en 9-3 med etanoldrift, Saab BioPower, som marknadsfördes i TV med en reklamfilm innehållande låten Release Me av Oh Laura. NEVS recently began production of the 9-3 EV, a 186-mile-range electric saloon based on the conventionally fuelled Saab.

Production ended on 8 May 2002 at the Trollhättan plant and 25 April 2003 at the Valmet plant in Finland. NEVS first previewed its electric 9-3 in 2014. The last we heard, the car will have a peak output of approximately 140 horsepower and be able drive up to 125 miles on a single charge. NEVS acquired the rights to the 9-3 after buying up the assets of Saab following the Swedish automaker’s bankruptcy in late 2011. The first model, called NEVS 9-3 (based on Saab 9-3 and Saab Phoenix E platform), is equipped with CATL batteries and a 130 kW electric motor.
